Bezawit Kassahun Bekele is an Ethiopian fifth-year medical student at Addis Ababa University, College of health science. During her hospital experience, she saw first-hand the great prevalence of preventable diseases and the lack of equity in the health care setting. Following this, she used every opportunity to advance her global health and public health education. She has taken courses provided by Yale and Duke University. As a member of IFMSA, she takes regular capacity building trainings and works on projects related to Universal health coverage, Non-communicable diseases and Mental health. She has written an article about mental health in times of a pandemic for the European Sting. She is also the current African Young Leaders for Global Health country coordinator for Ethiopia. She has participated in a Global health exchange program for tackling the Sustainable Development Goal of Good Health and wellbeing. She wants to work on teaching the community about easy ways of preventing some of the most common diseases in her country. Bezawit believes that Medicine just like other professions should be seen within the framework of equality and social justice. She hopes that one day all individuals across the globe will receive the health services they need without suffering financial hardships.
