Olivier UWISHEMA is the passionate founder behind Oli Health Magazine Organization (OHMO). As a Medical student who agrees with this quote “Prevention is better than cure” by Desiderius Erasmus, he established Oli Health Magazine Organization (OHMO). It’s an International Scientific Research Academy.
Olivier UWISHEMA is a passionate founder and chairman behind Oli Health Magazine Organization (OHMO) which is an International Scientific Research Academy and a Non-Profit and Voluntary International Organization with a mission of engaging young people into professional health education and scientific research.
Olivier is proudly Rwandan, a passionate medical student, researcher and writer at KTU Medical School in Turkey. He is also a health volunteer, health advocate, global health leader, aspiring physician, enthusiastic scientist and young boy who was born to make a change. Olivier organized and chaired the first National Students’ Congress on Neuro-Oncology which took place in Trabzon, Turkey from 20-22 December 2019.
As a result of Oli Health Magazine Organization’s work towards changing young people’s lives, in October 2019, Olivier was selected among 74 of the most talented and innovative young people across the globe and got invited as a guest of honor to the Republic of South Korea. From September 2019, Olivier was selected as a Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) Student Ambassador and member which is located in London, United Kingdom.
Olivier is a person who is behind a great initiative of Coronavirus Global Awareness Project which is bringing together more than 200 medical students, medical residents, Doctors and other health professionals from all over the world to make sure no one is left on the sidelines of this coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. He has also organized creative competitions to create COVID-19 awareness among the youth.
In June 2020, Olivier UWISHEMA was nominated the 4th and featured on the United Nation Youth Envoy's top 10 Young people who are fighting COVID-19 across the globe. He was also nominated by the United Nations among young leaders who can inspire you to change the World. In September 2020, Olivier UWISHEMA was interviewed and featured in Forbes Magazine.
His interests include Neurosurgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Plastic Surgery, Orthopedics and Oncology. Seeking internships and trainings especially in these fields. Olivier has a very positive attitude to life. In his free time, He likes reading books, writing and listening to music.
As a dedicated writer, Olivier struggled so many times when he wanted to publish his medical articles. Despites the fact that newspapers and other media organizations wanted a fee before publishing his work, he did not give up. Many of his articles were ignored. As a person who knows how it feels to not have people support your creative and innovative ideas due to societal labels, Olivier wants to be a voice for young people. He wants the and innovative ideas or talents for, for example writing those kinds of educational medical/health related articles, to be heard; so that they may improve the lives of people across the globe.
Oli Health Magazine Organization (OHMO)’s mission is to create a very healthy world. It is opened to all, regardless of race, colour, gender, language, religion, opinions, origins, age, disability, wealth, birth status or ability and therefore apply to every human being, everywhere.
Olivier truly believes that we need each other’s hand in order to improve people’s welfare completely and successfully. They say prevention is better than cure; It can only be achieved by practicing healthy diet, lifestyle and changing our mindsets. We need to acknowledge that the way some people live and what they put in their mouths, their physical activities and emotional well being can be more powerful than prescribed.
Being an African medical student abroad pushed him to realize that he should stop being spectator. Rather he needs to become part of the solutions to the most pressing problems in his communities. He believes that he can make an impact on local communities, countries and even across the globe through small projects which can improve the lives of people all over the world.
Olivier UWISHEMA believes that promoting healthy behavior among the youths and taking steps to better protect young people from health risks are critical for the prevention of health problems in adulthood; This will brighten our future perspective of the world’s health and our ability to develop and thrive.
