AWARENESS: WE CAN GET RID OF COVID-19

A catastrophe has recently befallen the world we live in. All movements were brought to halt. Thousands of human beings lost lives, millions of human beings were contaminated, villages, sectors, districts and countries were put under quarantine as the result of the catastrophe. Transport was prohibited, not as a matter of not being in need, but a consequence of the catastrophe; no road transport, no water transport, no air transport, so forth. Starvation around the world; people dying as a result of not working, hunger… so sorrowful. All this was the impact of the deadly health crisis that befell our globe known as COVID-19. COVID-19 is a coronavirus that outbroke in China and spread all of the worlds in no time. With it, the entire world was challenged. Politicians, medicinal doctors, educators, motivational speakers and all other important people in the world we live found no word. Scientific researches and studies were conducted to find out the cure and vaccination but in vain. The world stayed challenged up to know (Medscape, 2020).

On 14th March 2020, the first coronavirus case was found in Rwanda. Very awkward and frightening to all individuals in the country. From 15th March 2020, government analyzed the new conditions and took measures to ensure the pandemic would be put under control to avoid quick and dreadful spread. One of the measures, the schools were closed, all individuals were mandated to stay home for safety, and so forth (Rwanda, 2020). Beyond this, there are further measures that are put in place to be practised by each individual to partner with our successful and well-wisher government to simply bring the pandemic on the end. Some individuals were late to understand the significance of putting the practices in place and had claimed. However, this shouldn’t be the case. We should all of us work hand in hand with our leaders to make sure we get back in normal conditions after eradicating this pandemic from our nation.

Measures like social distance, wearing face masks, washing hands regularly, avoiding hand-shaking and avoiding unnecessary travels, risk communication and awareness campaigns, #GumaMuRugo were introduced by our government but some of the citizens wouldn’t comply with them (Rwanda W. H., 2020); and, the best thing was to do it. Much appreciation to those who observed them fully and those who would strive fall it. Here I explain more about why we should follow the measures as we move forward demolishing the pandemic and come back on our normal conditions with a steady hope that they won’t be cases of condemnation. Firstly, let’s see why we need to put on face masks. I understand this can sound unusual and of course bring you discomfort as most people claim. This is true for everyone because none, even the governmental leaders telling us to wear them is naturally in need of wearing them. They simply tell us to do so because it can help save our lives as well as the lives of the entire nation. If you’re really worried about the discomfort that can be brought by wearing the face mask, think of the discomfort you might have when you get infected; the discomfort your family members would have if you die from the pandemic…...With this, you can comprehend that wearing the face mask is better than not. It will prevent you from contamination which would be through respiration (CDC, 2020).

Secondly, we need to understand why we should avoid unnecessary travels and practice social/physical distances when we happen to move. COVID-19 can be passed through physical close interaction and breathing in contaminated air. So, the more we move, the more we increase the chances of being in crowds of people have breath the same air as we touch one another as well. These are good ways for COVID-19 to spread even wider. Now that we all want the pandemic to trail away, the best practice is to stay home; avoiding unnecessary travels that would render to making crowds. In fact, some special cases can call upon a need to move out. It might be a medical case, a need to shop, kind of. In this case, you will need to move but ensure you avoid being close to other individuals on your way and at the place where you go. Keeping this in mind and practice it respectively will prevent you from being affected as well as preventing others (Rwanda, 2020).

Thirdly, we are much more encouraged to wash hands regularly and avoid hand-shaking. In fact, washing hands has always been a working practice in avoiding the spread of different diseases including Ebola. Still, this helps to avoid spread COVID-19. Washing hands whenever you enter a place, you come back home and remember to use clean water and clean soap; or use hand- sanitizer if you can afford. This goes hand in hand with avoiding hand-shaking exemplary when meeting other people. The person might be COVID-19 positive and you didn’t know it. Shaking with the person will get you immediately affected too. Avoid this to save your life and every nation’s life. It’s improper to leave the practice of noting exchanging money in hands. This will also make you probably touch the person in the exchanged who might be contaminated. Doing, this, you simply and immediately get affected. Better use different modern money transactions technological systems such as Mobile Money, Tigo cash and other banking systems that allow people to transact without a need of money exchanging in hands. All the measures are fulfilled by the broader one of stay home. Without moving, the pandemic is more controllable. The government will be able to care for those who are already contaminated. However, they will be no increase in the number of infected people meaning when the already contaminated individuals recover, the pandemic will be fully demolished from our country.

Therefore, COVID-19 has come in our country Rwanda as well as the entire globe. However, we still have to manage and control its spread leading to its elimination. Currently, Rwanda has recorded 2171 positive cases, 7 deaths and 1478 people recovered. There is no doubt to say that Rwanda is one of the countries which have been able to keep the pandemic at low levels. All was due to the partnership between government and citizens. So, if there are some tips/measures that you didn’t respect and practice accordingly, start today. Let’s work together to get rid of the catastrophic disease which fell our planet. Wash hands, avoid unnecessary travels, avoid physical money exchange, wear face masks so we can be free from the pandemic and rebuild our country again; we get children back to school; we resume transport that crosses all districts of Rwanda without any under quarantine. You and I can get rid of the COVID-19 completely.
