Emmanuela Oppong

Emmanuela Oppong is a Ghanaian-American graduated from Union College, NY. She studied biomedical engineering with minors in global service and chemistry. Involved in several education and healthcare focused projects that seek to empower women, men, and children in the U.S. and Africa, she initiated a partnership between Union’s chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and the local chapter of Girls Inc. in Schenectady in the “Becoming a Renaissance Girl” course. She is also spearheaded the construction of a vocational school for orphaned students in Ghana with a Davis Projects for Peace grant and is partnering with a colleague to develop a similar project in Togo. Ella is an active research student in developmental biology, and plans on pursuing an MD/MPH. She hopes to utilize these degrees along with her research and engineering background to bridge gaps in healthcare and improve its accessibility in developing countries, especially those in Africa. She likes singing, dancing, cooking, swimming and watching documentaries and movies.
