Kenya based Rehema Mwazighe is a highly-seasoned Medical Laboratory Scientist and SDGs advocate who projects a high level of technical competence, authority, and enthusiasm in doing what she’s trained to do best. Her areas of expertise include Laboratory Medicine but remarkable advances being made in the field of Life Sciences has fuelled Rehema’s growing interest in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
Rehema began her career in 2014, working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist on Placement at Coast Provincial General Hospital, Mombasa, before moving to The Mombasa Hospital for her internship, where she supported the laboratory in achieving and maintaining ISO 15189:2012 accreditation for medical laboratories by observing GCP/GCLP at all times. Shortly after that, she joined the Medanta Africare, Mombasa. In 2018 to 2019, Rehema worked in the Microbiology department of Sayyida Fatimah Hospital. While here, she has a proven track record of having reduced turnaround time on lab results by 50% through improving the pre-analytical phase and implemented an infection control and prevention program that resulted in the reduction of hospital acquired infections. Moreover, she’s an active member of professional bodies like the American Society for Microbiology. She is a Savvy Fellow, African Leadership Institute Fellow, an alumnus of the Commonwealth100 Online Leadership Programme (Common Purpose), in addition to being an International Model United Nations official campus ambassador and a TOP Person Ambassador.
As someone who enjoys giving back to her community, Rehema's volunteering roles include being a GivingWay Ambassador and a part of the Research and Education Team at Oli Health Magazine Organization, whose works got featured in the United Nations (UN) and Forbes Magazine. Also, she has been shortlisted for the Impact Voices Digital Advocate Programme. A reputable professional in her field, Rehema is a scholarship recipient for the 13th Annual Science of Dissemination & Implementation Conference. Moreover, she’s a friend of the women for Africa Foundation - a Spanish private, non-profit entity that aims to promote equal rights and opportunities for women.
Ornamented with a self-motivated personality, Rehema prefers to take the extra time in staying unique and reaching her aspirations. She hopes to become one of the pioneers’ who will establish groundbreaking research and put her country on the map.
