War Against COVID-19 - Ngabo Rutayisire Sabin from Petit Seminaire Rwesero (ENTRY 65)

WAR AGAINST COVID-19

When something affects the health, then that should be the first terror. “COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered corona virus” (WHO, 2020). COVID-19 is an infectious disease, a person has to ensure that they will not be the ones to pass it on. Essentially, COVID-19 started in China but, now is in most countries. With COVID-19 break out, a lot was troubled i.e. economy, education, mental and physical wellness and more. Moreover, the COVID-19 break out triggered the establishment of new policies and laws to fight its spread such as wearing face masks and respecting social distancing. Central, COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and everyone has been called to follow guidelines for eradicating the virus. “Now we're all in a war against COVID19 together” (Kyriakides., 2020). Fundamentally, COVID-19 is a disease that does not yet have a vaccine or a medication and only with the right measures it can be stopped. For the past months, COVID-19 has been the topic on the news; in neighborhoods and in governmental meet-ups; in brief everywhere and the question has been how do we move past it. Health experts have indeed shared ways to stop the spread of the virus basing its nature and the suggested ways have actually permitted in containing the virus, though; there are still a lot to do.

Primarily, when we talk about COVID-19; humans should understand it well in order to prevent its spread.  The scope to understanding the behavior of this particular disease covers its nature, symptoms and how it spreads. Principally, COVID-19 is a disease that can even cause death. “Early, a pneumonia like disease was recognized in China, Wuhan in December, 2019; but it continued to spread across china and scientist shared it was caused by a corona virus” (Reynolds & Weiss, 2020) Indeed, as soon as people in Wuhan started presenting COVID-19 symptoms; the news spread quickly on this epidemic, but unexpectedly this became a pandemic and was in most world countries. “Detailing, fever; dry cough and tiredness are common symptoms whereas difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; chest pain or pressure; loss of speech or movements are serious symptoms” (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Moreover, this virus main trait is that it is passed from a person to another and to be able to stop it; the most important measure is what would stop it from spreading. Indeed, this disease is well handled; if, one understands how it represents itself and how best to prevent it from spreading.

Essentially, avoiding crowds and respecting social distancing would highly allow preventing the spread of the virus. Everyone has to avoid any form of gathering; parties, meetings,…  Corona virus easily spread when more people gather together especially in closed rooms. Additionally, people have to obey social distancing at least one meter as shared by WHO.  “When people do not respect social distancing the liquids in the mouth/ nose containing the corona virus can extent to others faces who do not have the viruses” (WHO, 2020).  Therefore, social distancing is necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Indeed, people have to respect social distancing and practice it in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Additionally, People no longer will greet each other by shaking hands, hugging and kissing as we can never be sure if we cannot get the virus from them. Indeed, the corona virus can be in hands and by shaking hands, it will be passed to others. Therefore people have to avoid greetings by shaking hands and hugging, thus; wave at them to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, it is important to wash their hands regularly with soap and clean water or using hand sanitizer. Not only your hands, but it is also important; to wash and clean all objects used i.e. coins, some doors…Definitely, in order to win against COVID-19 people should shake hands, hug so as to avoid spreading the virus and therefore should wash their hands regularly with clean water and soap or sanitizer.

Besides, wearing face masks would permit to significantly prevent the virus from spreading from one virus to the other.  “World Health Organization (WHO) advises people to wear a face mask so as to not pass the virus and as such to also follow all the other prevention way and they ensured this can help stop the spread of the virus to the highest extent”(WHO, 2020) . Wearing  face masks when out of homes and correctly by covering both the mouth and the nose  prevents the virus to reach to others through release of liquids from the mouth or nose when talking, coughing, sneezing. Moreover, it is also important the masks are well cleaned each time a person wears. Lastly when you meet with a person who has any of the shared symptoms of COVID-19 you have to put yourself in quarantine so as not to spread it, and then consult doctors earlier to reduce the health damages that can be caused by those corona viruses to your respiratory body parts.

Briefly all over the world we have one enemy, corona viruses which cause COVID-19 as a killer disease. Above I have shown the symptoms and the way of fighting this enemy of ours as my tittle says. Some countries took soon actions to stop the spread of the virus, but others too did not, the reality is that COVID-19 will only end if all forces will be brought together in fighting against it and following health experts instead of rumors.
